My top 41 products from Expo West
People like me in the health food and natural products industry live for this one event in particular, that happens each year over four days in March at the Anaheim Convention Center. It’s known as Expo West among our industry, but formally known as the National Products Expo West Show which began in 1981! This year was the 41st year of the show! We look forward to seeing everyone, connecting to our fellow foodies and people shaping the future of food, and of course, eating all the new foods and our old favorites! It is a dream come true for people like me. Obviously, the show was canceled the last couple of years due to the pandemic, so I was more eager than ever to get back and experience it again.
Last week the show was attended by 57,000 people with over 2,700 foods and products. Out of those, I’ve narrowed it down to forty-one of the most natural, delicious, healing, regenerative, and progressive foods and products. Needless to say, Expo West 2022 was electric. It is the largest natural food and natural product show in the world – and has so much to offer!
It’s always such a blast meeting new people and hearing about their delicious and healthy food products. Expo West is a place for brands to display their existing and new products at their own booth, and press, consumers, bloggers, retailers, wholesalers, scientists, influencers, and more can attend to learn more, try the foods, and products, and build relationships with their favorite brands. For this show, I also did a couple of book signings, Cancer-Free with Food (top 100 cancer books of all time) at Explore Cuisine’s booth and Anxiety-Free with Food at Sunbutter’s booth.
I’ve been attending Expo West (and East) for the last seven years. I always love going to the food shows and finding new Earth Diet-approved brands for you guys. For those of you who don’t know, The Earth Diet is a natural lifestyle that focuses on foods and products that use ingredients that come straight from nature. These types of foods provide more nutrition and nourishment for the body, they can help us heal, and also maintain our health, and some are used as an “upgrade” to our favorite foods like a healthier and cleaner peanut butter or pizza bite.
Here are my Top 41 foods and products out of 2,700 brands. The first five are brands I have never tried before, never posted about before, and that are new and very exciting.
Top 5 products (brand new that I’ve never posted about before):
Blue Stripes was hands down the most fascinating booth that caught my attention at the show! It was the actual cacao pods that got me. Yes, they had an abundance of football-sized cacao pods from Ecuador. One of the top 10 things that helped me heal my tumor and health issues was cacao, I write about cacao in all of my books and its healing potential. Cacao is chocolate in its rawest and purest form before it’s made into chocolate. You can eat this type of chocolate every day because it is a functional food. People who get it, get it.
Blue Striped is an all-new brand that launched as a coffee shop in 2020 and pivoted to a full-on cacao brand in the last two years. They are epic! Their products include cacao water, chocolate, cacao fruit smoothies, dried cacao fruit, and more. They strive to use the entire cacao pod which is unheard of! They are the first of their kind to produce products like their Cacao Water. They make the cacao water out of the shell of the cacao pod, by cold-pressing the shell to make a hydrating, antioxidant-rich, and high in Vitamin C water. Their chocolate uses cacao beans, cacao fruit (cacao sugar), and cacao butter to create a creamy, vegan chocolate bar! They also dehydrate the cacao fruit to make dried cacao fruit, giving a similar texture to dried mango. This brand is launching in Whole Food stores nationwide in May and I am SO excited! They even gave me a cacao pod to take home with me – SO COOL!

Nubocha’s recipe features 3 main ingredients; nuts or cacao, pure spring water, and allulose. This is the first dairy-free gelato I have seen that is creamy in texture and has an amazing flavor profile, while not sacrificing the nutrition! At the show, I tried their Pistachio flavor, so good!

3. Alkaline88
I was so excited to find this brand while walking the show the first day! Alkaline88 is special in that it has a pH of 8.8. This pH is more efficient for hydration because the body absorbs the water faster compared to standard tap water with a lower pH. Other waters also have buffers and chemicals such as magnesium fluoride or calcium chloride which can cause kidney stones. Alkaline88 is purified water and treated with Himalayan rock salt with reverse osmosis and then ionization. In addition, 8.8 is the highest natural pH found in nature. All ingredients are on the front label. They have new natural energy-water coming out soon with ginseng and B vitamins!
I talk a lot about alkaline vs acidic and why it’s important to keep your body alkaline in my book, Cancer Free with Food.

Against The Grain provides gluten-free products using natural, real foods. they are a celiac-owned family business, which makes them super relatable on their gluten-free journey. I had their pizza and wow! So delicious! Not only are they gluten-free, they are also grain-free, and nut-free. A great option for those that are gluten-free and also have a nut allergy as many of the crusts these days are nut-based. They sell the pizza crusts on their own as well as frozen pizzas ready to bake. Aside from pizza, they also sell breads, bagels, and baking mixes free of gluten, dairy, gums, corn, and soy – so epic!

5. CHi Foods
Another brand new, epic find, CHi Foods which makes plant-based ground pork! I love that they are using the ancient superfood Sacha Inchi which I call the new “peanuts.” The benefits of Sacha Inchi include improving cholesterol levels, aiding in weight loss, improve gut health, and they are far more sustainable to grow than nuts. They are also healthier than soy so I am stoked to see Chi use a more progressive ingredient for the base of their new plant-based meat. This is the first of its kind. They have four flavors, Original, Maple Sage, Italian Herb, and Chi-rizo. Made with all-natural ingredients, free from Methylcellulose, Soy Leghemoglobin, Wheat, Pea or Soy Protein, Food Starch Modified, Monocalcium Phosphate, Magnesium Carbonate, and Artificial colors and dyes. Unlike many other plant-based meat alternatives on the market that are made with fillers and artificial products to achieve taste and texture. CHi plant-based pork is so delicious and will be on the market soon! A must-try!

The SunButter booth was such a fun place to be at the show! Their booth is so bright and cheery, featuring a sunflower field for an epic photo opportunity.
